Page to Screen

10 / 10 (100.00%)

Yay for more challenges! Here's the Page to Screen Reading Challenge. I like reading a book and then watching the movie, or vise-versa. I've decided to go with "Level two-Read 10 books that were made into movies/T.V. shows". I'm going to try to aim for something higher than that, but right now that's what I have. And I think I'm going to watch the Movie/TV show afterward for more fun!

  3. A Secret Love by Stephanie Laurens
  4. The Storyteller's Daughter by Cameron Dokey

Wordsworth Classics Reading Challenge

0 / 4 (0.00%)

I just bought the Kobo eReader (though now I wonder if it was a waste of money maybe I should take it back?). It came with 100 free ebooks, I might have been more enthusiastic if they weren't classics a third of which I already own and/or have already read. But when I came across the Challenge, I realized that I haven't really read enough classics. This Wordsworth Classics Reading Challenge, is just what I needed. I decided to go with the "Peasant: 1-4 books" level. Just in case I take back my Kobo at least I know I still have some classics. Here are some of the choices I have:
  1. Emma
  2. Mansfield Park
  3. Northanger Abbey
  4. Persuasion
  5. Pride and Prejudice
  6. Sense and Sensibility
  7. Jane Eyre
  8. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
  9. The Moonstone
  10. Oliver Twist
  11. The Scarlet Letter
  12. A Winter's Tale
  13. Anna Karenina

Harry Potter Challenge 2011

7 / 7 (100.00%)

I've been meaning to reread the Harry Potter books, though it never happens. So maybe this Harry Potter Challenge will encourage me? Maybe? Hopefully. I always start rereading them, I swear I've read the first three more time in the past five years than when they first came out. And I've only read the last three a handful of times. I usually skip the fourth one altogether.

EDIT 7/20/11: Yay and I finally reread all of them!

Buy One Book and READ It 2011

1 / 12 (8.33%)

Buy One Book and Read it, seems like a straight forward challenge right? I think this really will be a challenge, not the buying part. Because I often buy new books, it's getting to read them that's the problem. I've decided to go with level two. "Buy one book and read it every month."

Read
  1. Finishing Becca by Ann Rinaldi

...

I had hoped that someone would get me a kindle or a sony reader... or something this Christmas. I mean, I know whenever people as if I want one and I say  "I'm not really sure." But jeez I thought someone would get me one anyway.... oh well. I guess I'm going to have to buy one when I get the money...

But I'm not really complaining, since I really got everything I asked for this year and more!

Merry Christmas!

Yay Christmas... sadly it's gonna be 1:30 am. I really need to get to bed if anyone thinks I'm going to wake up early. Ugh...

I love Fairy Tales and Retold Fairy tales. So I think this one just might be one of my favorites! For this one I've decided on the 3rd level "Enchanted: 6-9 retold fairy tales reads". I could do more, but again I wouldn't want to set my standards so high and not reach them.... Considering I'm an underachiever and all.

2011 Chick Lit Challenge

0 / 8 (0.00%)

I'm hoping that I have enough books that would fall under Chick Lit for this challenge. I know I have a few, but I'm not completely sure where to draw the line between YA and Chick Lit (to be hones they seem rather similar to me lately). Oh well, this will be a challenge within itself!

2011 Futuristic/Sci-Fi Challenge

3 / 4 (75.00%)

For a really long time I thought all science fiction was futuristic... for the most part... you know besides the whole alien thing. Anyway, this here is the 2011 Futuristic/Sci-fi Challenge. For this one I'm going to aim for the first level "Explorer: 4 Futuristic/Sci-fi novels" but I'll like to meet the second level.

  1. The Rowan by Anne McCaffrey
  2. Damia by Anne McCaffrey
  3. Damia's Children by Anne McCaffrey

Science Fiction Challenge

3 / 8 (37.50%)

Once upon a time Jessie used to read A LOT of science fiction, after all her favorite author wrote science fiction. However, after some time she dropped the whole thing and continued on with fantasy, and though she loves that genre she misses science fiction. So yay for the Science Fiction Challenge! Now this one started on August 28, but I think I'll be fine since it ends August 8, 2011. So I'll give it a whirl!

2011 2nds Challenge

As someone who often likes to go back to authors' works, or continue on in series. This one works perfectly fine with me. I'm thinking I'll do the "A few more bites- Read 6 books that are 2nd in a series or the second time you've read the author" level. I would take on 12, but I wouldn't want to say that and do less than that... -.-
  1. Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones
  2. Damia by Anne McCaffrey
  3. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling

Yeah this definitely fits in with everything, and I have a number of books that are 1st in a series. I decided to go with "Series Expert: Read 12 books that are first in any series". I was going to go with 6 but I know I have more than that and if anything I'm always buying new books so meeting 12 shouldn't be really hard on me.

2011 New Authors Challenge

I know this sounds... weird, but with all the books I own, there a number of them from authors I've never read anything from. Just because I own the book doesn't mean I read it, or anything else from that author. Weird. Anyway. So maybe this New Authors Challenge will encourage me to read those books? I think I'm going to go with 15 since it seems like a good number, and I know I probably have at least that many books from authors I've never read from.

    2011 E-Book Challenge

    0 / 3 (0.00%)

2011 E-Book Challenge. I've been debating with myself whether or not I want to buy some sort of eReader. I like actually OWNING the things. As in I can see them. I'm not sure I'd appreciate a digital library. However I have read a number of ebooks on my computers. So this challenge shouldn't be too much of a problem. Still, I think I'm going to go with the first level "Curious - Read 3 e-books".

YA of the 80s and 90s

YA of the 80s and 90s Reading Challenge

YA of the 80s and 90s Reading Challenge :D! I surprisingly or not so surprisingly, have a number of books written in the 90s, and even a few from the 80s. This one is bound to be fun. Whenever I read older books they always confuse me now, like I'd wonder why they didn't just use their cell phone or something instead of going crazy looking for a pay phone. Silly, silly Jessie. In my defense even Zach used a cell phone in Save by the Bell.

    Read:

    1. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones (1986)
    2. Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones (1990)
    3. Freeze Tag by Caroline B. Cooney (1992)

    Young Adult Reading Challenge

This Young Adult Reading Challenge, shouldn't be too bad either. Many of my book are YA anyway, this one might be the easiest for me. Still, so I won't get too full of myself. I'm going to go with the second level "The 'Fun Size' YA Reading Challenge - Read 20 Young Adult novels".

    1. Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
    2. Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones
    3. The High King by Lloyd Alexander

    100+ Reading Challenge

    62 / 101 (61.39%)

100+ Reading Challenge. Long ago, when Jessie should have been worrying about high school, she used to read 100+ books all the time. My highest count might have been about 140. However, I became lazy and ok with less than 100. Well, not this year. I'm so angry with my 50 something count this year! >.< I'm going to try and reach 100+ in the upcoming year!

    Mystery and Suspense

    0 / 12 (0.00%)

For this one 12 Mystery and Suspense novels shouldn't be too hard. Between my own books and my mothers I'm sure I can put more than twelve mystery and suspense novels.

    A to Z Challenge

    13 / 26 (50.00%)

Here's the A to Z Challenge, I see myself having some trouble with this one. But that's what a challenge is suppose to be right? I think I'm going to commit myself to 26 books alphabetically by title. I can't imagine it'll be easier with authors. So... yeah.

B: The Book of the Shadow by Carrie Asai
C: Castle in the Air by Diana Wynne Jones
    D: Damia by Anne McCaffrey
    E: Empress by Karen Miller
F: Freeze Tag by Caroline B. Cooney
H: Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
I: Into the Cold Fire by Lynne Ewing
M: Magic Study by Maria V. Snyder
N: Night Shade by Lynne Ewing
P: Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder
S: The Singer of All Songs by Kate Constable
    T: Time Enough for Drums
W: The Wizard's Dilemma by Diane Duane

    YA Historical Fiction Challenge 2011

    2 / 10 (20.00%)

I love historical fiction. So this YA Historical Fiction Challenge shouldn't be too hard for me. I'm know I have a number of books around the house somewhere. I've decided on the 3rd level "Captivated- Read 10 YA HF novels in 2011" because it sounds like a plausible number.

    What's in a Name?

    2 / 6 (33.33%)

Here's the What's in a Name? challenge. For this one I'll have to read a book in each of these categories:
    1. A book with a number in the title.
    2. A book with jewelry or a gem in the title.
    3. A book with a size in the title.
    4. A book with travel in the title
    5. : Howl's Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones
    6. A book with evil in the title.
    7. A book with a life stage in the title.
    8. : Damia's Children by Anne McCaffrey

    Gothic Reading Challenge

To be honest I don't think I've ever read a book with any sort of Gothic elements in it... so this could be interesting.

    0 / 1 (0.00%)

For the Gothic Reading Challenge, I'm just going to try the first level "A Little Madness - Read just 1 novel with Gothic elements." I even looked over the list, they had. And I actually own three books that could fall into this category:
    1. The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova
    2. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
    3.  Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen

That being said, I can't picture myself bothering to find any more books that could fall under this category. ((Yeah I know, I can't believe I've never read any of them either.))

    Outdo Yourself Challenge

I always plan on doing some of these different reading challenges (but I'm terrible at keeping track of things/I'm just too lazy). But my goal this coming year is to actually try!

    35 / 66 (53.03%)

This here is the Outdo Yourself Challenge... which considering I probably read only about 50 books this year (an all time low, I'm very disappointed). It can't be that hard right? I've decided to go with the fourth level "I’m on fire! Read 16+ more books". Because I'd be really sad if I can't even do that.
